Original chairs from Thonet by Mart Stam, set of four. The chairs are in good condition. The chairs were in the council chamber of the municipality of Hattem. The chairs have been reinforced by the manufacturer as requested by the municipality. Two pins prevent the chair from leaning back further. The two pins are easy to take out and put back in again. The chairs are made with thick buffalo leather. The history of this historic company goes back to 1830. In this year, the German-Austrian design pioneer Michael Thonet started producing groundbreaking wooden furniture by bending and shaping the material with steam. This new approach to furniture design proved so successful that several factories were later opened in Germany. Mart Stam was a Dutch designer and architect who was born in 1899. He became well-known for the S43 tubular chair, but he also designed houses, factory spaces, office buildings, apartment buildings and residential towers. In addition to the Netherlands, Stam also frequently worked in Germany.
