Peter Brian Gabriel (born February 13, 1950 in Chobham, Surrey Heath) is a British musician, video artist and humanitarian aid activist. He became known in the early 1970s as a frontman and founding member of the then progressive rock band Genesis. After his departure from Genesis in the fall of 1975, he started a successful solo career. The focus was on the production and promotion of world music, both his own music and those of other artists. He also took a pioneering role in the field of digitally processed music.
