Eight young artists settled in the buildings where the earthenware of Nimy was made in 1943, under the guidance of Raoul GODFROID, director of the Academie voor Schone Kunsten of Bergen, in consultation with his friends Jules Moreau, director of earthenware of Nimy. Fernande Massart, Georges Destrebecq, Louis Waem, René Lemaigre, Pierre Monnaie, André Hupet, Irène Zacq and Geneviève Noe, who under the name of Maitrise de Nimy will be a pioneering movement with the aim to lift ceramics to the level of art, in a production context that had been, until then, in essence industrial. The group is broken up after the final closure of the Nimy factory in 1950.
Georges Destrebecq made this piece unique.
This bowl has been finished in relief. The colours of the enamel have been applied in such a way that they form a balanced arrangement.
This large bowl has a diameter of 35.5 cm and a height of 6 cm.
The bowl has been fully marked on the bottom with, ‘Destrebecq Georges, Matrise de Nimy’ and the original sticker, ‘ceci est une piece Unique, signe Maitrise de Nimy’.
This bowl has always been in a showcase and is in mint condition.
It weighs 2,9360 kilograms.
